Lion's Mane, the focus mushroom
Lion's Mane (Hericium erinaceus) is a white, shaggy mushroom whose fruiting body carries hericenones, compounds that support the brain's own nerve growth factor signalling. That is the maintenance pathway neurons use to build and keep their connections, and it is why people who take it daily talk about focus and clarity rather than a buzz.

What Lion's Mane is
The part used, and the compounds in it.
Lion's Mane grows on hardwood trees as a cascade of soft white spines, which is where the name comes from. The part Rainbo uses is the fruiting body, the mushroom itself, the part you would recognise. It is rich in two families of compounds. Beta-glucans are the water-soluble polysaccharides that most medicinal mushrooms share. Hericenones are the ones specific to Lion's Mane fruiting body, and they are the reason it is studied for the brain: hericenones support the production of nerve growth factor, the signal neurons use to grow, repair and keep their connections.
Two things follow from that. Because the pathway is maintenance rather than stimulation, Lion's Mane does not feel like coffee. Nothing in it blocks adenosine, the tired signal, so there is no lift to come down from. And because hericenones are alcohol-soluble while beta-glucans are water-soluble, a single extraction leaves one of the two behind. Rainbo's Lion's Mane tincture is a dual extract: hot water first, then alcohol, so both families end up in the bottle.

How it works: hericenones and nerve growth factor
Support for focus and mental clarity through the brain's own maintenance pathway.
Nerve growth factor is a protein the brain makes to keep neurons healthy and connected. Hericenones from Lion's Mane fruiting body support that signalling. The felt version, in customers' words, is the fog lifting: not re-reading the same sentence, not searching for words, a morning that starts clear. Because it is not a stimulant, the effect people describe is steadier and slower to arrive than caffeine's, and it is why the reviews that mention focus most often describe weeks of daily use, not one dose.

I started taking as little as 3ml of Lion's Mane in my coffees and matchas almost every morning and WOW does it ever clear the brain fog and worries for the day... I find myself just DOING things that need to be done without any second thought

The dose, and what the studies used
Every figure below is a dried-mushroom equivalent, which is the only basis on which a tincture, a powder and a trial can be compared. The trials are about the ingredient at the doses shown; none of them tested a Rainbo product.
| Amount of Lion's Mane | Form and part | Basis | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rainbo Lion's Mane tincture | 800mg per 4 ml, up to 1,600mg a day | Dual extract of fruiting body, 1:5 | The label: 4 ml carries the extract of 800mg of dried mushroom, at 4 to 8 ml a day |
| Fungki, per 2 teaspoon serving | 1,000mg | Dual extract of fruiting body, in a powder with Reishi and Cordyceps | The label: 3,000mg of three mushrooms, 1,000mg each |
| La Monica, 2023, single dose | 1,000mg | Extract, taken once | 40 healthy adults, working memory and reaction speed measured within two hours |
| Docherty, 2023, 28 days | 1,800mg a day | Fruiting-body supplement | 41 adults aged 18 to 45, faster attention task at 60 minutes after the first dose |
| Saitsu, 2019, 12 weeks | 3,200mg a day | Powdered fruiting body | 31 adults over 50, cognitive test scores versus placebo |
| Mori, 2009, 16 weeks | 3,000mg a day | Dried powder | 30 adults aged 50 to 80, scores rose during supplementation and faded after stopping |

What the research says, plainly
Four human trials anchor what can honestly be said. In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover of 40 healthy adults, a single 1,000mg dose supported working memory and reaction speed within two hours (La Monica, 2023). A pilot study of 41 adults aged 18 to 45 taking 1,800mg a day found faster performance on an attention task 60 minutes after the first dose; the 28-day drop in self-reported stress in the same study came in at p=0.051, which is a trend, not a result, and it is often quoted as if it passed (Docherty, 2023). Twelve weeks of 3,200mg a day of powdered fruiting body improved scores on a standard cognitive test versus placebo in 31 adults over 50 (Saitsu, 2019). And 30 adults aged 50 to 80 taking 3,000mg a day for 16 weeks saw cognitive scores rise during supplementation and fall back after stopping (Mori, 2009).
Read together, that supports a modest, real statement: Lion's Mane supports focus, working memory and mental clarity, at doses from 1,000mg a day upward, and the longer trials used more than the tincture's daily range. None of it makes Lion's Mane a switch you flip. The pattern in Rainbo's own reviews matches the trials: the people who notice most often describe weeks of daily use, and many notice most clearly after they run out.
Safety, and who should ask first
Rainbo's Lion's Mane tincture is for adults. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, ask your health care practitioner before you start, and if you take daily medication the right person to ask is your practitioner, with the label in hand. Lion's Mane is a culinary mushroom with a long history on the plate, and the human trials above reported no adverse effects at the doses they used.
The alcohol-based tincture is 30% USP organic alcohol, which is the extraction solvent for the hericenones. A 4 ml dose is a fraction of a teaspoon of alcohol, and most customers take it in coffee, tea or water where the taste disappears. If alcohol is a dealbreaker, the glycerine-based version of the same extract is lightly sweet.
How to take it
4 ml, which is a full dropper pulled twice, in anything you already drink: coffee, matcha, tea or water. Once a day is the habit most customers keep; the label allows up to 8 ml a day, which is 1,600mg of dried-mushroom equivalent. Morning is when most people take it, because focus is the job. It dissolves straight into hot or cold liquid, and it does not need a machine, a filter or an empty stomach.
Give it weeks, not days. The reviews that describe a change most often describe two to ten weeks of daily use, and the verdicts of nothing happening tend to form in the first fortnight, which is too early to tell. If you would rather have Lion's Mane in a cup than a dropper, Fungki carries 1,000mg of it in every two teaspoon serving alongside Reishi and Cordyceps, without caffeine.

Questions people ask about Lion's Mane
Does Lion's Mane actually work for focus and brain fog?
The human evidence is early but real: a single 1,000mg dose supported working memory and reaction speed the same day in healthy adults, and 12 weeks at 3,200mg a day improved scores on a standard cognitive test in adults over 50. In Rainbo's own reviews, focus is the most mentioned theme, in 34% of 289 Lion's Mane reviews. Some people notice nothing, and the ones who notice usually describe weeks of daily use.
How long does it take to notice anything?
Most customers who describe a change describe two to ten weeks of daily use. A common pattern in the reviews is noticing most clearly after running out, when the fog comes back.
Is Lion's Mane a stimulant?
No. It works through nerve growth factor signalling, not adenosine, so there are no jitters and no crash built into it. That is also why you can take it in the coffee you already drink.
What does 800mg per 4 ml mean?
The tincture is a 1:5 extract, so each 4 ml carries the compounds pulled from 800mg of dried Lion's Mane fruiting body. It is the basis the label states it on, and the basis the trial doses above are written in, so the numbers can be compared.
Tincture, powder or capsules?
The questions are the same for every format: which species, which part of the mushroom, and how much dried-mushroom equivalent per serving. A tincture is already extracted and goes into whatever you drink. If you want it in a cup, Fungki carries 1,000mg of Lion's Mane per serving with Reishi and Cordyceps.
What is in the bottle?
Spring water, USP organic alcohol at 30%, and a dual extract of Lion's Mane fruiting body. Nothing else. The glycerine-based version replaces the alcohol with vegetable glycerine.
